IT’s all about the Hackney Hub
1 June 2010
The IT crowd were out in force on Wednesday 26 May to celebrate the official opening of the Hub at Stamford Hill Estate in Hackney. Acting on feedback from residents, Southern Housing Group has created the Hub - a new employment and training centre offering support and guidance to residents looking to improve their work and life skills.
The event was an informal drop-in-day to give residents the chance to find out more about the Hub, take part in workshops, meet the team, and find out about other services that the Group provides for residents. Steel Band, Solid Steel, helped to attract curious passers-by and set the upbeat tone of the day.
Employment and Training Project Manager, Tim Lovett, said: “The Hub will provide a valuable resource for many residents, providing one to one support, training sessions and access to IT. The services offered will expand throughout the year, which can only be a positive thing for the local community.”
Resident, Haroon Khan, said: “My son and I really enjoyed the event. I think the Hub is going to be really beneficial to the estate. I look after my two year-old son for most of the day so searching for work can be difficult. Now I can pop in to the Hub to search for jobs, take Izaan to the park and come back again later in the day – it’s ideal.”
