2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

It is widely thought that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games bids were successful largely because of the legacy benefits that they promised to provide after the Games. Southern Housing Group’s housing stock is heavily concentrated in the five host Boroughs – Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Greenwich and Waltham Forest – and we therefore have an interest in helping to ensure that the benefits of hosting the 2012 Olympic Games are available to Southern Housing Group residents, in particular in the areas of:
- Jobs and training
- Volunteering
- Health, sports and wellbeing
- Cultural
- Disability and Special Needs
Foundation Sports Fund
Sport is obviously fundamental to the Olympics, and in 2008 we set up the Foundation Sports Fund to support Southern Housing Group residents in their sporting endeavours. Find out about more about all of our grant making programmes.
Three examples of awards granted from the Foundation Sports Fund are:
- A lady from Hove has received help with her membership costs to YogaHaven, to improve her health which has suffered as a result of illness
- A lady in North London has had a grant so that she can take lessons and learn to swim.
- Karate lessons for a young man in Kent
- Financial support with training costs for a shared owner in Sussex who plays football for the England Women’s Deaf Team and who is likely to represent England at the Deaflympics in Taiwan next year
